What is the Bechdel Test?

Have you ever watched a romantic comedy and thought, do these women talk about anything other than men?

Let me introduce you to the Bechdel Test. This test analyzes female characters in film and will “pass” the Bechdel test if:

  1. The movie has at least two (named) women in it,
  2. Who talk to each other,
  3. About something besides a man

PASS:

a little chaos magic mike xxl ricki and the flash miss you already danish girl

FAIL:

macbeth creed black mass irrational man goosebumps

Remembering Alan Rickman

alanrickmanAlan Rickman (1946-2016) is probably best known from his role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series. However, this London based actor was truly a chameleon and shone in a number of diverse roles. Take a moment to remember his work and revisit one of his titles Oxford County Library has in our collection.
